  Reflections on SSAT

Yep, it’s me again, now writing my SSAT reflections. My friends have jokingly said that my Toefl essay is all about showing off and annoying my ex-consultant. I do have to acknowledge these small mischiefs of mine, and I hope you can excuse me for this. In this SSAT reflections, I will first confess that these mischiefs of mine will reoccur, and to whoever can not stand these mischiefs, all you have to do to avoid them would be to click the close button of this document. Isn’t it easy to avoid? Ok, back to the main topic, which is how did I achieve my SSAT score. Again, the main reasons would be listed out in a couple paragraphs.

The first paragraph is a general thanks to all those who helped me. Oh, and NO, I swear I will not start this “I thank xxx for all the hard work he/she have done for me; without her/him…. He/ she laboured (insert fancy synonym for hardship) for me… ” Which suspiciously resembled some content from baidu after processed by a translator. To be honest, I just want to thank some teachers and friends that I have met in One Best. Even though some of their teaching methods can be quite eye opening and the teaching content interesting and creative; I generally learned a lot from these lessons. Especially the final preparation class I have attended, it’s really useful, both in helping me to understand hard questions, and to make me realize that I am not alone in this lamentable situation. Also, it is useful for me to gather info about school applications and whom would I wish to avoid as a strong competitor in the great boarding school race. But not counting all these small side effects, I would say this final preparation class help me to deal with some of the biggest red flags in my exam. Without these red flags, all’s well .

哦,不,我发誓我的开场白不会是“I thank xxx for all the hard work he/she have done for me; without her/him…. He/ she laboured (insert fancy synonym for hardship) for me…”,这简直就是从百度上拉了一堆翻译器加工过的内容来拼凑。

The second reason is exactly like the reason in my other essay, and that is to have a good motivation. I am not going to go into details with this one. To all who want to hear the specific explanation, please read my Toefl essay; I wrote a whole paragraph on that. To those who did read my Toefl essay and wish to know what’s my motivation for this one, it’s because a One Best teacher have promised me a whole set of leatherback pocket edition of Lord of the Rings. To all those who found me shortsighted an sneer at my reason, here is a reminder: the close button should be on the top left hand corner, try clicking it and everything will be sorted out.

The last main factor is a technique factor. To sum it up, it would be “don’t memorize, internalize.” (@ my current consultant #^_^#) In common words, it would be: do not rely on your memory; rely on your subconscious instead. I started using this method when I was driven to the edge by my goldfish memory, and I found it useful. I never actually memorized any words on the vocab list (to all those who said I scored alright on the vocab mocks, my answer would be: taking a vocab test 5 minutes after I went through the content is still in the capacity of my memory.) , but instead tried to search up short texts about them. By reading short texts about the words, (@ oxford dict) I understand how these words came to be, and why it would mean the meaning it have. That is just the vocab section, but it’s similar to other sections, so I shall not goo into detail. I don’t even think I should go into the reading sections; and primary school teacher would have explained the reasons well enough.

Since I really don’t bother to add a conclusion that summarizes everything, I am going to end here. These are basically my main reasons, and I hope you, my dear reader might find this small text a simple amusement.
